I was in Minneapolis this week for business and had the pleasure of taking a Bike Friday tikit folding bike with me. Minneapolis has a great network of trails and greenways and is something that Portland can aspire to. One of the highlights for me was the Hiawatha bridge seen here:
as a former resident of minneapolis (i moved there from here (portland)) i will say that while the trails are nice in that they are fully seperated from traffic, they don’t really connect parts of town in a very useful way. cruising around, sure. point a to point b, no. everyone there is really proud of the chain of lakes bikeways, but they just circle some of the lakes that folks like to jog and rollerblade around in the summer, but for commuting purposes they are almost pointless. just sayin’.
friends have told me that the midtown greenway has been extended, that’s great. i hope that’s having a positive impact on the number of bikers there.
