Reminder: First Annual North Portland Willamette Greenway Volunteers’ Bicycle Tour
May 19, Wednesday 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Join us for an “on the ground, first hand” tour of the future North Portland Greenway Trail alignment. We want as many people as possible to join us for this event–especially those who are interested in volunteering to further the project and get it built!
We will meet at the northern terminus of the Eastbank Esplanade where it crosses the railroad. Although the terrain is mostly easy to navigate, there are some rough, rocky surfaces so mountain bikes and/or knobby tires strongly encouraged.
We hope to see you there! Breakfast on the Bridge: Swan Island N Going Street Bridge
May 19, Wednesday 7:00 am – 9:00 am
Celebrate Bike to Work Month on the Northside! Coffee, treats, maps and more. Meet us where Going Street passes over the Union Pacific Railroad just after it passes under N Greeley Ave on the way to Swan Island. More details available here.
Willamette Cove Plan is available The Willamette Cove Trail Alignment Refinement Report is complete. The report was funded by Metro, Portland Parks & Recreation and npGREENWAY. It provides the following information:
- details of the history of Willamette Cove
- brief descriptions of present and future clean-up
- discussion of plans for the site and zoning
- identification of a trail alignment, design recommendations and cost estimates
The report is available at http://bit.ly/npg_WC and identifies three specific actions that need completing before the trail can move forward. Task 1 involves completing the cleanup of the upland portions of the site. Task 2 calls for any necessary site restoration. Finally, Task 3 includes trail plan refinement and regional trail construction.
The cover letter and report are also available here: Willamette Cove Trail Cover Letter to Elected Officials Willamette Cove Trail Alignment Plan University of Portland Engineering Students Finish the year with North Portland Greenway Trail Design Recommendations Seven senior engineering students at the University of Portland took on designing sections of the North Portland Willamette Greenway for their senior project. They made their professional presentations to their professors, Drs. Male and Kennedy and other classmates April 19th. Some npGREENWAYers were there too, as the students presented their research and design recommendations. The two sections they studied were the intersection of Waud Bluff Trail at the street level of Willamette Boulevard, and the North Portland Willamette Greenway Trail as it goes around the toe or bottom of Waud Bluff, near the railroad tracks. To read the complete article and see a slide show of the students’ work, click here.
Two students also presented their work to the University Park Neighborhood Association at the April Meeting. It was great to see students and neighbors interacting in a positive way!
