An important City Council Meeting is coming up at the end of this month. Support is needed from trail advocates across the city. We urge you to attend the meeting at City Hall, testify or send a support letter. In the link below, you will find a ‘model’ letter for your use in writing to City Council for the Thursday 28 January 2010 2pm Hearing on the River Plan.
The following is an excerpt from the word document linked below:
Dear Mayor and City Commissioners,
We request that the Portland City Council adopt the Willamette River Greenway Tail alignment as envisioned in the River Plan North Reach Recommended Draft November 2009 now. It will become a vital and necessary link in the regional trail and transportation system (that includes the 40-Mile Loop Trail, the Eastbank Esplanade, Springwater Trail and others). To date, the North Portland segment represents a major gap in the Regional network. The Willamette River Greenway Trail is a piece of infrastructure connecting residents with jobs on the working waterfront while also affording a connection to the rest of the city.We would also request that no mitigation sites be designated in areas where the trail is to be located as it is my/our understanding that mitigation sites would not permit any conflicting uses such as a trail.[…]
Please attend the meeting at City Hall, testify, or send a support letter.
